A short profile....
Since the age of fourteen I have been interested in Photography; at the age of thirty-seven I moved away from film, investing in my first digital camera.
The Digital experience has helped me develop and expand my love of photography. Within a very short time I had upgraded to a Fuji Fine Pix S9500 (bridge camera). This camera intensified my enthusiasm to learn more about the art of Digital Photography; I had the urge to find out more ways to experiment and push my boundaries to become more creative.
In 2008 I moved back to North Somerset where I joined one of the local camera clubs. The members helped And encouraged each other to better their skills pushing up the number of members who entered competitions.
In 2010 I upgraded my camera kit to a Canon 50D DSLR; this totally changed the way I looked at the art of photography. I have moved up to a more advanced level of interest, pushing the boundaries once again.
After purchasing this kit I decided to re-join my old camera club only to learn the club had folded. I found myself joining one of the oldest clubs in the area ‘Bleadon Photographic Group’ established in 1954. This club is managed and run totally differently for my former club as it is member of the WCPF thus encouraging the club / members to get involved with county and interclub competitions with the South West counties’ we are very competitive!
I run hands workshops/tutorials evenings at the club for the members where they are encouraged to ask questions, share knowledge and practices. Running these workshops has also helped me increase my knowledge and drives me on to learn new techniques which I can pass on. I have gained invaluable information from the older members of the club, some of which are retired professional photographers. Within two years of being a member I was elected onto the club’s committee; my roles within the committee is to maintain a training schedule; produce the clubs annual programme I have also rebuilt the club’s website and I maintain it as part of the role.
Working within one of the largest schools within North Somerset gives me the opportunity to help teach students photography, this was a daunting thought at first, but as students and teaching staff signed up for my courses I became more relaxed boosting my confidence. As things developed I integrated Photoshop training into the courses.
My interests are varied; I just love doing High & Low key Portraits; Product; Macro and Abstract photography.
In December this year I decided to purchase a Canon 5D MkIII (full frame) to help push me to the next stage…
Where photography is going to take me in the future, only time will reveal……
